How To: Choosing The Right Cleanser

Cleansing is the foundation of every skincare routine and it can be stressful trying to find the right cleanser for your skin. Not to mention all the rules - double-cleanse, cleanse at night and rinse with water in the morning, cleanse twice a day. So what do you do? Cleansing is very individual. We recommend you use the method that feels right for your skin. 

Now I mentioned cleansing is the foundation of your skincare routine and choosing the right cleanser for your skin is very important. The main purpose of cleansing is to remove all the dirt, bacteria, sweat, excess oil and products from your skin. Cleansing also gives your skin a boost of hydration and helps to manage its pH level.

If this critical step is done incorrectly, it can be the most damaging step in your skincare routine. Over cleansing can strip the skin of its natural oils. Not cleansing enough can lead to breakouts and dull or textured skin. 

So how do you choose?

Keep it simple. Avoid daily cleansers with active ingredients. It won’t be on your skin long enough to have an impact. 

Bring balance. pH levels in your skincare products indicate how alkaline or how acidic the formula is. Cleansers leaning too much in either direction can damage your skin barrier. Since the natural pH of your skin is around 5, look for a cleanser with a pH level of 4.5-7.

Follow your own rules. Do what feels right for your skin. Cleanse on your schedule and cleanse regularly.
